Dan-Sha-Li?

This is non-aerodynamics topic but you might find it interesting as I am impressed over drink-out conversation in Tokyo the other day…

What is Dan-Sha-Ri?

As is often with an engineers, I am not a person with tidied-up room. all drone parts and junk electric components (and of course, 10+year old PCs!) – never seen complete floor for a while.

It satisfies my proud of geekiness:) However, Tokyo guys think different:

He suggested Dan-Sha-Li practice (I tried copy its spell above as title. Not sure it’s right…). It sounds Zen or some sort of mind practice.

I am not a Zen practitioner apparently but I try to summarize what he went through:

  • Dan-Sha-Li is a way to tidy up your circumstance.
  • It is often applied to clean up house.
  • It consist of three elements
    1. Dan : You buy less
    2. Sya : You bin more
    3. Li : Free up your mind
  • Ultimate goal is to have a harmony around you.

Sounds sensible approach – in short, it seems a good guideline to keep your place clear without messy clutters, physically or mentally.

A word which struck me….

But best part was coming next. With a bit ironical smile, he continued:

“It sounds too ordinal, isn’t it?”

I nodded with Japanese manner (sort of..)

“But there is a trick. You CAN bin it anyway if you got something hiding more important stuff.”

Honestly, it doesn’t sound any ‘lightning’ strike of the thought first place. However it got deeper as the time went by.

Ah, I have missed something hidden by clutters….

Look at your book shelf

I have so many books on the shelf. Each one got my memory since my childhood. All technical books or notes remind me of day one of my university lecture.

I have a reason for each why it’s there. But I don’t remember when I flicked the page last time….

Grab one of them and let’s think. You would find something important behind it?

Or it’s time to bin traditional thought to get to a new horizon?

Dan-Sha-Li sounds a good way to lead me to the next stage.

Looking completely cleared floor is REALLY inspiring experience(and I can fly my drones freely!).
